Classes
At Sunset Hills Nursery School enrollment opportunities begin at Age 2 in our Parents and Tot class and Two-year-old class. Learning continues with classes for 3-year-olds, 4-year-olds and 5-year-olds.
A typical day includes a child directed period during which the student may move freely about the various classroom centers which offer puzzles, blocks, manipulatives, dramatic play, housekeeping center, art table and resource stations.
During circle time, the children gather together for stories, songs, finger plays and other group activities. The children then take turns serving a mid-morning snack which begins with prayer.
Finally, a period in "the big room" with its tricycles, balance beam and climbing equipment fosters motor skills as well as imaginative play.
Each month your child will participate in interactive programs with varying themes in Science, Music and Library.
This year we are starting a new program called "Preschool Plus". We will offer an opportunity for your child (ages 3, 4 & 5) to stay and have lunch with their friends M-Th. The cost is $10.00 each day, and the times are from 11:30 - 12:45.
Field Trips - Parents will accompany their 4 year-old and 5 year-old children on two different field trips during the school year - one to the farm in the fall and one to the zoo in the spring.
We will also participate in an "All School Field Trip" this year to the Carnegie Science Center.

Parents-n-Tots Class - Age 20 months (Fri)
This program is an introduction to a classroom setting; parents join their child and participate in activities designed to teach basic socialization skills, gross motor activities and other sensory play such as painting, play-dough and art table actives.
Time: 9:15 am to 11:15 am
2-Year-Old Class - 2 day (M/W or T/Th)
This program is an introduction to a classroom setting; helping teach the basic rules of the classroom, while having fun each day. We'll do a craft, have snack, play in the big room and enjoy a story. No need to be potty trained.
Time: 9:00 am to 11:00 am
3-Year-Old Class - 2 day (T/Th)
3-Year-Old-Class - 3 day (M/W/F)
For many children this is their first experience in a classroom setting. Our gentle routine has been developed to encourage participation from the shy child as well as more outgoing personalities, at a comfort level unique to each. Your child must be potty trained before entrance into our 3-year-old program.
Time: 9:00 am to 11:30 am
4-Year-Old Class - 4 day (M-Th)
Our curriculum is child centered and responsive to individual interests and needs. We trust that children WANT to learn and believe that they learn best that which is interesting to them and connected with their own experience.
Time: 9:00 am to 11:30 am
5-Year-Old Class - 5 day (M-F)
This pre-kindergarten environment provides the older child the opportunity to continue to grow and mature. The program involves much active exploration and discovery learning through play and activities that offer intellectual challenge. This is done by matching each child's cognitive developmental level with the appropriate learning activities.
Time: 9:00 am to 11:30 am
We enrich our programs by bringing in people from the community who share their talents with us throughout the year. They bring with them their love of science, nature, art, music, dance, exercise, fire safety, good health, nutrition, and many other areas of interest to the children.
Preschool Plus
We also offer an Enrichment class to our children enrolled in the threes, fours & five-year-old programs. A couple days a week your child will bring a lunch and eat at school with his or her friends, fostering more independence and self-esteem. Our enrichment teachers always have a wonderful afternoon lesson planned.
Please no peanut butter sandwiches for lunch during enrichment.
Enrollment
Children that are already enrolled at Sunset Hills Nursery School, and their siblings, will be given first choices for enrollment the following school year. Our enrollment starts in February.
